I found an old NYC subway token while walking across McCarren Park earlier this week. Yes I know, picking up things off the ground is gross but in my head I’m still eight and therefore compelled. Besides, it was in the dirt which is probably way cleaner than any sidewalk.

Anyway, I had never seen a token like it and I thought it might be a fake like from some old marketing promotion or something. I showed it to Pinknest on Tuesday while we were shopping and she also thought it looked fake. My brain promptly forgot about it but I remembered that I had it this morning and did a little research. Turns out the token’s legit and went into circulation in the mid 80′s. You can view NYC subway token history here. As tokens go, it’s pretty much the lamest one. Should teach me a lesson about picking things up off the ground.
