I made a change to my morning commute a few weeks ago. I began exiting the train at 51st St. and walking the rest of the way to work through midtown and then Central Park. CP is like a giant dog park in the morning so it makes for a very pleasant and sometimes entertaining way to start the day.

The morning walk has had several effects, mostly beneficial but one detrimental. First, I don’t get nearly as winded when I exit the subway station on the way home. Anyone who’s had to climb out of the L train at the Bedford stop knows what I mean. That station is deep. Secondly, I seem to be sleeping more soundly at night which is always a good thing. Thirdly, I’ve lost three pounds. It’s not much but it’s a start. And fourth, my feet are usually killing me by the time I get to work after walking for 30+ blocks.

Which brings me to the photo above. I decided to purchase some Rockports, known for their walking shoes, to see if they’ll improve how my feet feel after the walk. Rockports tend to favor function over form but I thought this pair, although kinda plain, looked decent. I’ll be giving them a test run tomorrow so wish me luck.
