My friend Kevin and I went down to stroll about the Brooklyn Heights promenade back in early February. While down there, I shot a photo of a building at the southernmost end of promenade. I knew the building had been used as the setting for a horror movie from the 70’s due to a prior visit to the same promenade with my cuz’n and his partner(a fellow shutterbug) but I couldn’t remember the name of the film. My cuz, being a regular reader, was kind enough to mention the name and cast of the film in the comments section of my earlier post of the photo.

The film is called The Sentinel and it stars Cristina Raines and Chris Sarandon. That bit of information turned into a slot on my Netflix queue which then turned into a Sunday afternoon with me in front of the TV losing about 90 minutes of my life to pure pap. I think the writer and director were aiming for The Shining meets the Exorcist but they missed the mark by a long shot.

All was not to be lost though. On a lark, I thought it would be fun to snap some pics from the TV of the house to compare with the modern photo shot back in February. Plus, I got a really great shot of a cat in a birthday hat from the film.

The building in Feb. 2006.

The building as seen in the film which was released in 1977.

The building is supposedly demolished at the end of the film and this one is built in its place. I wonder what bit of Hollywood trickery was used to accomplish this.

“God I hope none of my friends see me like this.”
