Greenpoint Gets Dangerous

Tragically, it has recently become common to get crushed to death in Greenpoint.
First off was this story in the NYT from April 18th. A truck driver had pulled over to check his load of 2×12″ planks. While doing so, the load collapsed, striking him in the head and killing him. No doubt a pretty terrible way to go but unfortunately the next death is much worse.
The second incident occurred on Saturday the 22nd.
From the NYT:
Mr. Rocano, an employee at a privately owned recycling-transfer station in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, climbed into the rear of an empty open-top tractor-trailer on Saturday morning and was buried alive in an avalanche of debris dumped by a co-worker who did not know he was there, the police said. The truck later dumped the debris, and Mr. Rocano’s body, in a landfill in Suffolk County, where it was found three days later, after the company and the police had tracked it there.
The Times has printed two different stories about the accident. The first one is a fairly dry account of what happened but the second one is a much stronger tale. It’s both more graphic and it strongly engages your emotions. You really feel empathetic for the unlucky soul.
Everyone please be a little more careful as you go about your day tomorrow.
