It’s a cliche that New York City is a melting pot of people and cultures. I encounter proof of that cliche every day and it’s the one of the best things about the city.

I buy cream and bitter chocolate from a friendly Polish man.
The couple who run the local laundromat are Chinese.
A Yemeni gentleman sells me Diet Pepsi’s.
One of my closest friends is Korean and her husband is Irish.
Another friend is from the Ukraine.
My favorite diner is run by a kind Italian man.
A Mexican couple run my favorite shoe repair shop.
I work with a really sweet Russian woman and a nice guy from Columbia.
My former landlord is Greek.
And best of all, my beloved girlfriend is Scottish.
