I woke at 4:30′ish this morning with the recollection of a dream involving web code. The difficulties of the new blog site are weighing more heavily on me than I’d like to admit. Besides the design/functionality issues I’m wrestling with, today marks the first significant technical problem to come up.

I’ve narrowed the choice of themes down to two finalists, the red train station theme and the green car in tunnel one. I’m leaning towards the red one because it has both a bold look and clean design however the text presents a problem. White text on a red background is only slightly better than white text on a black background which is very hard on your eyes. The green one has more functionality and is easier to read but it’s busier design-wise and it’s also a very popular theme. I like to stick out a little bit if you know what I mean. Six of one, half dozen of the other, right?

The shortcomings of the red one probably aren’t that difficult to fix. I just need to pick a color scheme that goes with the red outer border and is easier on the eyes. That part will be more difficult than actually updating the code, I think. Me trying to choose a color from the whole spectrum is like asking me to pick a restaurant when I’m not hungry. Too many choices and my brain gets a little fritzy. Give me some specific options though and I’ll make decisions all day long.

However, assuming I can pick a color scheme there is still the technical problem that popped up today. I’ve been using flickr to host my photos for the new blog. Flickr has an automated blog posting tool whereby I can send posts from flickr directly to the blog, easy peasy. The problem is the red theme doesn’t display those posts properly in Internet Explorer. There’s a big gap between the heading of the post and where the image shows up. I’ve switched to the green theme until I can sort it out. Firefox doesn’t have the problem but I don’t think I can get the entire internet to switch to it even though they should cause it’s way better than Internet Explorer.

I just knew I shouldn’t pick at it(moving my blog) but I did anyway and now it’s starting to itch. Someone pass the Benadryl.
