I found the lamp you see below in December of 2005 and wrote about it here. It was a street find that needed some attention. I redid all the wiring and hardware then the lamp took up residence on my living room floor awaiting a new shade.

This weekend it finally got one. *E* and I walked across the Williamsburg Bridge on Saturday to the Lower East Side and went to a shop called Just Shades.

I brought a picture of the lamp along with its measurements and a very nice lady helped us pick out the shade you see in the picture. She was kinda funny because she turned to *E* and said “Did you find us?” and *E* said no, that I was the one that knew about them. The reason was because I’d walked past the store before and thought it was ridiculous to have a store devoted to lamp shades. How wrong I was.

The shade we chose looks pretty good. You can’t tell from the photo but the shape of the shade is oval which compliments the design of the base. I’ve yet to take the plastic off cause I’m still trying to decide if I wanna exchange it or not but I feel like it’s a keeper. I think the harp might need to be a little shorter though.

It’s too dark to really see it but the little table the lamp is sitting on is a recent street find as well. *E* and I were walking home from dinner in the neighborhood last week and I spotted it sitting out with the trash. Thankfully we weren’t too far from my house cause that little guy was heavy. It’s all solid wood and very well built. The coat of white paint on it is kinda distressed but it gives it a shabby chic look. I might strip it back to the original stain or maybe paint it a different color. Regardless, it makes the perfect end table cause it’s got drawers for hiding stuff like TV remotes and whatnot.

All in all, not a bad deal. A lamp and end table for the price of a lamp shade. Gotta love NYC.
