I’ve been trying to find appropriate shorts for riding my bike since I’ve started commuting by bicycle. I have an old pair of knee length swim trunks that have been working pretty well. They provide the necessary support and look like regular shorts so they’re good from a fashion angle. The problem is they don’t have any padding in the seat so they’re a little uncomfortable and I just have the one pair. I needed options.

To remedy the situation, I went digging through my closet to see what else I could find. Lo and behold, I found a pair of bike shorts. I’ve no idea when or where I purchased them but I tried them on and they still fit. Cool deal. I’m thinking I can wear them under any of my regular shorts which is just the ticket, padding plus fashion options.

It was with glee that I described finding the bike shorts to *E* when she came over later in the day neglecting to mention the key phrase “under my other shorts”. She tentatively shared in my joy while keeping to herself the fact that she wasn’t so sure about her partner zooming around Brooklyn in a pair of bike shorts.

About ten minutes later I bring up the subject again and finally reveal my intention to only wear the bike shorts under other shorts. *E*’s relief was obvious which is when I realized that she thought I was gonna wear the bike shorts by themselves. It was this realization that caused me to exclaim “I’m not gonna be “bike short” guy!”
