Or “How to Recycle a Windows PC in Two Easy Steps”
Step 1: Install Ubuntu Linux
Step 2: Enjoy
Seriously, it’s about that easy. I took a slow 4+ year old Windows XP PC and installed Ubuntu Linux on it this past weekend and it’s as if I have a brand new computer. The installation itself was very simple, even non-techies should find it a breeze. Now the computer, which was headed for the scrap heap, is fast, stable, secure, virus-free, spyware-free, and best of all just plain free! What’s not to like?
It gets better, I can still do all the same stuff I used to do on Windows only easier and faster. I can surf the internet with Firefox or Opera, download music with Azureus, play said music with Amarok, edit photos with Gimp, create documents with OpenOffice, and the list goes on. So if you have an old Windows PC that needs replacing, I highly recommend that you consider installing Ubuntu Linux instead. You may find that you already have all the computer you need.
Ps. I’m also still enjoying the MacBook I bought last year. Bye bye Windows.
