An Earth Day Suggestion
Posted by thenextstopwillbe under Whatnot
Having trouble finding a way to help the Earth today? If so, may I suggest reducing the amount of junk mail clogging your mailbox. It’s within your control, relatively painless, and helps both you and the Earth. Ye olde win/win in management talk.
The first step is visiting the Direct Marketing Association’s website for mail preferences. Through their site you can opt-out of most mailing lists, this is particularly helpful for preventing unsolicited catalogs from being sent to your home. They also have a link there for stopping pre-screened credit card offers, a former scourge of my mailbox.
That takes care of unsolicited catalogs and unwanted credit card offers but how about those catalogs you receive from companies that you’ve purchased items from in the past? Some of those you may still want to receive and others maybe not. Well, there’s a solution for that as well. The button below will take you to Catalog Choice. In their words, “Catalog Choice is a free service that allows you to decide what gets in your mailbox. Use it to reduce your mailbox clutter, while helping save natural resources.”
I’ve been using Catalog Choice for a couple of months and it really works. You create a profile on their site, then browse through the list of catalogs and notate which ones you don’t want to receive. It only takes a few minutes and goes a long way towards reducing waste, especially if you don’t have paper recycling in your area.
Using the methods mentioned, I’ve put a huge dent in the amount of junk mail I receive to the point that I probably only get a few items a week whereas I formerly got several a day. Please consider taking a few minutes out of your day to both eliminate a nuisance and help out the Earth. Thanks!
