Structure is very important to me, for proof see item 4 on this post. As such, I set up patterns for different tasks around the house including doing dishes. In general I go from large to small because it makes it easy to load the dish drainer. So I start with plates and bowls and end up with silverware.
To get specific I thought I’d share with you my silverware policy. I wash them in order from most favorite to least. Knives, spoons and forks in that order. I don’t like doing forks because I never really feel like I get them clean what with the tines and such. Which is funny because I don’t really consider myself squeamish when it comes to germs and stuff. I’ll hold onto a subway pole or stair railing and not think twice about it. But forks, yeah they bother me.

The flatter it is, the sooner I wash it. Plates, pans, bowls, cookware, cutlery and then my least favorites…
I will use every glass, cup and mug in the house before I stick my hands inside one to wash it.
(We only have 6 glasses and four cups out for use for this very reason). I just don’t like my hand in them…
I do knife/spoon/fork as well… and stab the tines through the very soapy, very coarse mesh washing pad.
After that point I hope for the best.
