Who’s a Smart Monkey

I love situations that force me to use the simian tool-making part of my brain; however, I didn’t expect one to come from our parking lot vendor at work. Here’s the deal, they instituted a new policy whereby Museum employees have to put a parking sticker on our bikes if we want to continue to park in the garage for free. The problem is they only give you one sticker and I have more than one bike.
90% of the time I’ll probably ride my single speed commuter bike to work but I wanted the flexibility to ride one of my other bikes if I chose to. Here’s where I had to engage my monkey brain. I needed a solution that would allow me to move the sticker from one bike to another yet be relatively permanent enough that someone wouldn’t steal it.
After considering and dismissing several alternatives, I came up with the solution below. I took the lid from a plastic takeaway container, cut it down to the appropriate size, cut slots for zip ties, put the parking sticker on it and voilĂ , a mostly permanent solution that I can still move to another bike by sacrificing a couple of zip ties. Monkey brain 1: Annoying parking rules 0.
